After much controversy, an oversight panel in Los Angeles this week approved a plan for the LAPD to use drones in a yearlong test. The program will be tightly controlled, and weapons and facial-recognition technology won't be allowed.

Some citizens are still fearful of what the program could mean for policing, and LA could set a precedent for other police departments around the country. Here & Now's Jeremy Hobson speaks with Ben Johnson (@TheBrockJohnson), who covers tech for Here & Now.

This segment aired on October 19, 2017.
