After nearly six decades in power, the Castro brothers will no longer lead Cuba: The country's new president, handpicked by Raúl Castro, takes over Thursday.

The transition comes amid tensions with the United States, as President Trump scales back some of his predecessor's efforts to strengthen ties between the two countries. NPR's Carrie Kahn (@ckahn) explains how Cubans view the change in leadership with Here & Now's Lisa Mullins.

This segment aired on April 19, 2018.
