A new analysis finds that the 2020 census could miss millions of Californians in its count, after the Commerce Department announced in March that the survey would include a question on citizenship.

Here & Now's Jeremy Hobson speaks with Derek Thompson (@DKThomp), senior editor at The Atlantic, about what the question means for representation in Congress and for federal funding, and how the census has changed over time.

This segment aired on August 6, 2018.
