How 'The Chop' Changed Fiddle-Playing Forever

The violin can make a scratchy sound by just dropping a bow on its strings. The sound is produced by this technique is called the chop. The odd little noise arrived on the music scene about 50 years ago and slowly took the fiddle-playing world by storm. WBUR's Amelia Mason (@shmabelia) explains how it all came about.
