Missouri is the only state in the U.S. that does not have a statewide program to track opioids and other prescription drugs. The databases help prevent patients from going from doctor to doctor to get drugs. Previous efforts to create a drug monitoring program have failed. But, as KBIA's Sebastian Martinez Valdivia (@sebastiansings) reports, advocates hope a new bill will be successful.

This story was produced by Side Effects Public Media.

This segment aired on March 15, 2019.
