Florida's COVID-19 cases have surged to nearly 7,000. After originally resisting calls for a state-wide mandate, Gov. Ron DeSantis issued on Wednesday a stay-at-home order for the entire state.

Additionally, a cruise ship filled with COVID-19 patients idles off the state's coast, pleading for permission to dock. People on the ship say they need medical attention they can't get on board, but state and local governments worry the influx of patients would overwhelm Florida's hospital capacity.

WLRN's Caitie Switalski (@caitielee0917) talks to host Jeremy Hobson about the situation in southern Florida.

This segment aired on April 1, 2020.
