The U.S. now has the world's highest coronavirus death toll, more than 22,000.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo says the nation's worst-hit state is starting to see a flattening of the curve and that all the numbers are on a downward slope. But there's also word Monday of an increase of cases in China and Singapore, two countries that appeared to be moving in the right direction.

Here & Now's Jeremy Hobson speaks with NPR global health and development correspondent Jason Beaubien (@jasonbnpr).

This segment aired on April 13, 2020.
