Some emergency room doctors and respiratory care experts are noting a strange phenomenon among some COVID-19 patients: They don't show signs of respiratory distress despite severely compromised lungs and advanced pneumonia.

That caused one ER doctor to recommend that people use pulse oximeters at home during the early stages of illness to monitor their oxygen levels. Others, including the American Lung Association, are not recommending the devices for home use.

Here & Now's Robin Young speaks with Dr. Len Horovitz (@DrLenHorovitz), a pulmonologist at Lenox Hill Hospital, to discuss the pros and cons.

This segment aired on May 6, 2020.
