International Longshoremen’s Association members walked out of East Coast and Gulf Coast ports on Monday night — beginning a strike that could severely impact the U.S. economy.

Billions in imports and exports could be lost every day due to the labor action, taken after port management and the union could not find common ground on a new contract.
