WBUR Launches New Season Of You're The Expert With Host Chris Duffy

WBUR, will air a new season of You’re the Expert, a science and comedy program hosted by comedian Chris Duffy this week. The first season aired as a pilot on WBUR in June 2015, and built a strong audience. The weekly one-hour show will run new episodes for a total of six weeks, Saturdays at 6 p.m. with a rebroadcast Mondays at 9 p.m., on 90.9 FM and live streaming at wbur.org. The first episode debuts on Saturday, May 14.

Each episode of You’re the Expert is recorded in front of a live audience and features a guest expert in a specialized field, such as a psychologist who studies nightmares or a marine biologist who discovered new defense mechanisms in the octopus.

Through game segments, a panel of comedians tries to guess the expert’s field of study and figure out why their work is important. In this season’s premiere episode, comedians Eugene Mirman (Bob’s Burgers), Scott Adsit (30 Rock) and Maeve Higgins (Inside Amy Schumer) try to figure out the industry of Dr. Leslie Dewan, a nuclear engineer who designed a revolutionary nuclear power plant that cannot meltdown.

You’re the Expert has proven that comedy and science belong together, especially on public radio,” said Chris Duffy, the show’s creator and host. “We're going to keep listeners learning and laughing in the second season with even more amazing discoveries, passionate scientists and the funniest comedians in the country. I am extremely grateful to WBUR for their support and look forward to another exciting season.”

“Following the success of last year’s pilot, we’re thrilled to be presenting You’re the Expert again this spring,” said WBUR General Manager Charlie Kravetz. “It’s great to continue working with Chris Duffy and share both the live show and podcast experience of You’re the Expert with WBUR’s radio audience. Not only is this program entertaining, but it shares new research and discusses groundbreaking science in an interesting and accessible way. Many of the brilliant scientists featured on You’re the Expert are young men and women are great role models for future generations. It’s our hope that the program sparks curiosity and inspires audiences.”

You’re the Expert began as a live show recorded and shared as a podcast. WBUR teamed up with comedian Chris Duffy, the show’s creator and host, to bring the program to radio. The project was spearheaded out of the WBUR iLab, the station’s center for innovation, imagination and ideas at WBUR. You’re the Expert is currently in its second season with a run slated for six-weeks on WBUR. It is scheduled to air weekly on Saturdays at 6 p.m. and Mondays at 9 p.m. EST.

You're The Expert is produced by WBUR and Chris Duffy with Pretty Good Friends. For more information and to find out about upcoming live tapings, visit the You’re The Expert website.
