The murder case of Danvers teenager Philip Chism is expected to head to the jury by the end of the week.

In court Monday, prosecutors sharply challenged a critical defense witness.

Dr. Richard Dudley has testified that Chism, then 14, was suffering from acute mental illness when he raped and murdered math teacher Colleen Ritzer at Danvers High School in 2013.

For the second consecutive day, the psychiatrist underwent withering cross-examination from the prosecution.

WBUR's David Boeri was in court and reports for Morning Edition on Monday's proceedings and Dudley's testimony.

This segment aired on December 8, 2015.
