Voters in Massachusetts may have an opportunity this fall to decide if the recreational use of marijuana should be legalized.

Already, the use of medical marijuana is legal for those with a doctor’s prescription and four dispensaries are open with 13 more in the works.

Should voters approve recreational use, an entire system of regulations would need to be put in place.

In preparation, eight Massachusetts state Senators are in Colorado now learning about how that state has dealt with the change. WBUR’s Steve Brown is in Denver reporting on what the lawmakers are doing there for Morning Edition.

This segment aired on January 12, 2016.
