The drought shows no sign of releasing Massachusetts from its grip any time soon, and federal agriculture officials are gathering data needed to provide some financial assistance to struggling farmers here.

Jon Niedzielski, executive director of the U.S. Agriculture Department's farm service agency in Massachusetts, joined Morning Edition to describe how devastating the drought has been for farmers across the state.
