Prescription: Fewer Drug Ads

Turn on the radio or T.V. at any time of the day or night, and within minutes you'll most likely catch a commercial for some kind of drug. Now, the pharmaceutical industry has announced its first industry-wide "code of conduct" for such advertising.

For a look at the impact of this move, we're joined by Dr. Jerry Avorn, a professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School, and author of "Powerful Medicines: The Benefits, Risks, and Costs of Prescription Drugs."

This program aired on August 3, 2005. The audio for this program is not available.
