Beth Israel Admits Mistakes

In a rare admission, the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center's chief of obstetrics is publicly disclosing mistakes that led to the death of a newborn five years ago.

An article in today's Journal of the American Medical Association describes a series of errors the hospital made, including the failure to perform a caesarean-section early enough.

Dr. Benjamin Sachs, head of obstetrics and gynecology at Beth Israel, joins us to discuss the article and why it was written.

This program aired on August 17, 2005. The audio for this program is not available.
