Violence Claims a Second Son

This article is more than 16 years old.

Boston police plan to flood the city's Cape Verdean neighborhoods with extra police patrols as they try to stem recent violence.

Officials are worried about retaliation, after a stretch of seven killings in seven days.

The latest of those murders was the death of 24-year-old Alex "Matt" Mendes in Uphams Corner over the weekend. The investigation continues into that incident, the city's 21st murder this year.

Fred Thys visited the Mendes family's Dorchester home Monday.
