Remembering Fred Boyce

Funeral services for Fred Boyce were held over the weekend. He passed away May 6th, at age 65.

He was one of the men at the center of a decades-long fight over the treatment of young boys at the Fernald State School in Waltham.

A ward of the state, Boyce was sent to the Fernald School at eight and labeled a "moron." He spent the rest of his life trying to shake the stigma attached to the diagnosis. He spoke about it in a 2002 interview on Morning Edition.

This program aired on May 22, 2006. The audio for this program is not available.
