Fitchburg Marine Remembered

The 41st soldier from Massachusetts killed in Iraq, Lance Corporal Geoffrey Cayer, will be buried next week at Arlington National Cemetery.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday in his hometown of Fitchburg. Cayer was the first service member from Fitchburg to be killed in the war.

His tour of duty in Iraq was to end this week. He was shot in a town outside Baghdad in what the military is calling a "non-hostile incident" that is under investigation. His family says Cayer's letters home showed he was proud to be a marine in Iraq. Monica Brady-Myerov spoke with family and friends of Cayer to learn more about his life.
