BU Biolab Hits a Snag

The status of construction is in question at the site of the Boston University Biosafety Medical Center Laboratory. This, after a Suffolk Superior Court justice decided Thursday that the state's approval of the biolab was "arbitrary."

The ruling was in response to a challenge from a group of people who live near the lab's site. The judge says the decision does not mean the biolab should not proceed, just that further review is necessary.

A Boston University Medical Center spokeswoman says the university will appeal the ruling, and construction on the biolab is continuing. Another lawsuit seeking to cut off federal funding for the project is still pending.
