Health Care Board Sets Affordability Rules

The panel charged with implementing the State's new healthcare reform plan has set the monthly premium fee for lower-income residents.

For people making up to 300 percent of the federal poverty level, the plan will charge a single adult between 18 and 108 dollars a month, depending on income.

One of the eleven board members voted against the new fee schedule, saying it would be beyond the means of many working poor, but the remaining members say the plan is an affordable compromise.

The new law requires all residents get health insurance by next July.
