Greatest MCAS Improvement Seen in Non-traditional Schools

The Department of Education released a report listing the individual MCAS scores for tenth graders in schools across the state.

The latest breakdown shows the greatest improvements among students at the state's non-traditional high schools.

The top three most improved schools are: The Academy of Public Service, The Noonan Business Academy and Tech Boston Academy.

Speaking at the Dorchester education complex, which houses the three schools, State Education Commissioner David Driscoll said for the first time in the state they're seeing "what we call a closing of the achievement gap."

The most improved school, the Noonan Business Academy in Dorchester, increased both its tenth-grade math and english scores by more than 30 percent.

This program aired on September 27, 2006. The audio for this program is not available.
