Health Care Expansion Plan Begins Enrolling Residents

Massachusetts officially begins enrollments for its new health care expansion program.

Starting today roughly 50-thousand residents with income levels below $9800 a year are eligible for free medical coverage under the new plan called "Commonwealth Care."

It's the first step in getting all Massachusetts residents insured by next July.

Meantime, the Boston Globe is reporting a loophole in the new law means children are excluded from the mandate that all residents get health coverage.

State officials say they'll work to close the loophole.

This program aired on October 2, 2006. The audio for this program is not available.
