EMC To Lay Off 1200

One of Massachusetts's largest companies is cutting its workforce.

Hopkinton-based EMC Corporation will eliminate more than 1200 positions as part of an effort to streamline operations.

Its not clear how many of the cuts will be in Massachusetts.

EMC announced the job reductions today while posting third-quarter earnings that were down about a third.

The data storage company employs about 31,000 people and says the cuts are needed to streamline operations after 21 recent acquisitions.
