State Reports Disappointing MCAS Scores

The state's education commissioner is expressing concern today, after this year's 2006 MCAS scores stayed flat or declined in almost all categories for third through eighth graders.

The largest drop was among third graders, where the percentage of students scoring proficient or above on the reading exam dropped from 62 percent in 2005 to 58 percent this year.

In all grades except for third, fewer than half the students scored proficient or above in math.
