SJC Won't Force Gay Marriage Vote

Last month, the state legislature recessed without a vote on advancing a gay marriage ban to the voters.

Now, the Supreme Judicial Court has ruled it cannot force the legislature to act, but also chided the legislature for not fulfilling its constitutional duty.

Gay marriage opponents hope that will prompt lawmakers to reconsider their actions at Tuesday's constitutional convention.
