Bagpipe Renaissance

The bagpipes are almost as old as mankind itself. They are hard to play — or at least to play well. To some, bagpipes sound downright strange. But to the surprise of even bagpipers themselves, the instrument is enjoying an American renaissance in the 21st century.

The Alliance of North American Pipe Band Associations estimates that the number of players has doubled, or even tripled, since 1990. Is piping the new new thing? Keith O'Brien has this report.
