The Beat Goes On, Part 4

Jack Kerouac's On The Road traces the coast-to-coast travels of Sal Paradise. In the novel, published 50 years ago this month, Sal says the greatest ride in his life began in North Platte, Nebraska on a flat bed truck.

The travelers aboard share laughs and whiskey as the truck careens across the Nebraska Panhandle. 50 years later, Charles Sennott of The Boston Globe set out on the same roads.

In part four of our weeklong series, Charlie tries his hand at hitchhiking.

This program aired on September 20, 2007. The audio for this program is not available.
