Court Favors Mass MoCA

After two hours of oral arguments, and months of controversy, Judge Michael Ponsor of the Federal District Court in Springfield ruled on Friday that MASS MoCA can exhibit Swiss artist Christophe Buchel's enormous political installation.

'Training Ground for Democracy' incorporates thousands of found objects, including a real theater box office and projection booth, a 200-seat raked floor theater, a replica of Saddam Hussein's 'spider hole,' and an actual two-story Cape Cod home.

The court ruled that the museum must include a disclaimer that it be viewed as an 'unfinished project' that does not convey the original intent of the artist.

Judge Ponsor is giving Buchel the opportunity to draft the disclaimer himself by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, September 24th.

MASS MoCA will announce whether it plans to display 'Training Ground for Democracy' on Tuesday, September 25th.

This program aired on September 24, 2007. The audio for this program is not available.
