Lowell Becomes a Free Agent

World Series MVP Mike Lowell is now free to sign with any other team, although he could still return to the Red Sox.

The midnight deadline for teams to negotiate exclusively with pending free agents has passed.

Red Sox General Manager Theo Epstein reportedly met with Lowell's late into the night but the two sides were unable to reach an agreement.

While the third baseman can now field offers from other teams — possibly including the Yankees — he could still choose to work out a deal with the Red Sox.

Lowell drove in a team-high 120 runs in 2007.
