Boston-China Direct Flights Expected Soon

In the midst of a week-long trip to China aimed at building a better trade relationship, Governor Deval Patrick says he is nearing an agreement to offer direct air service from Boston to Beijing and Shanghai.

Patrick says about 70,000 people travel from Boston to China each year.

"We're one of the few major cities in America that doesn't have direct service," Patrick said. "We're working on that, and we have made some progress and we hope to have something to announce, if not by the end of our visit here, then shortly thereafter ."

Patrick has also met with Chinese business leaders to promote Massachusetts life sciences and clean energy businesses. He says he's impressed by the focus and efficiency the Chinese government has in identifying its goals and reaching them.
