RAND STUDIES TO WATCH FOR...

The Patrick administration is working with the RAND Corporation on strategies to control health care costs. A spokeswoman for Health and Human Services Secretary JudyAnn Bigby says RAND will develop a menu of cost containment strategies, estimate the potential savings (in Massachusetts) and then recommend a set of priorities. She says RAND has already begun meetings with health care stakeholders. The administration plans to use the RAND research to launch a broad community conversation about how to reign in health care spending. RAND is expected to produce a series of reports. The first one is due late this Spring and the final one a year later. The state's Quality and Cost Council has committed to holding health care cost increases to growth in the GDP by 2012.
