Renewable Energies in MA, Part 1

Green technology, green collar jobs — catchy labels amid swelling interest in renewable and clean energy.

Here in Massachusetts, there's been a push to catch what could become a "green" tidal wave.

In his 2007 State of the State Address, Governor Deval Patrick called for making Massachusetts a global leader in the field, "The clean technology sector has become one of the strongest growth industries in the Commonwealth and one of the most promising in the world."

Can the Commonwealth actually become a global "green leader?" What strengths does the state already possess, and what limits does it face?

Over next couple of days, we'll examine those questions on Morning Edition.

WBUR's Bob Oakes starts today's report in a backyard in Andover.
