Profiles in Courage Awards

Both secretaries of state questioned the accuracy of electronic voting systems in their states, much to the dismay of partisans, and voting machine manufacturers.

California Secretary of State Debra Bowen says the public demands accurate elections.

"If there is any question about the integrity of the voting system, you have to put that to rest before you have any discussion about partisanship and who won," she says.

Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner says winning the award is humbling.

"You do what you do in public service because that's what you believe in, and it's the right thing to do, and it's icing on the cake when you're recognized for it."

In addition to Brunner and Bowen, the Kennedy Library is also honoring former Mississippi Governor William Winter for his efforts to champion racial equality.
