MA Enacts Ocean Protection

Massachusetts is now the first state to enact a law for ocean protection.

Governor Deval Patrick signed the legislation yesterday saying, "Massachusetts should lead the way in thoughtful stewardship of our ocean resources."

Under the 'Oceans Act of 2008,' all projects will have to follow specific development guidelines. The law will govern everything from wind farms to gas pipelines.

To find out more, WBUR's Delores Handy spoke with Priscilla Brooks. As Director of the Marine Conservation Program at the Conservation Law Foundation, she helped to establish the new law.

This program aired on May 29, 2008. The audio for this program is not available.
