Revere Soldier Killed in Afghanistan

The Defense Department says three members of a New York Army National Guard unit based in Geneva died from wounds suffered when their vehicle was hit by a bomb and small arms fire in Afghanistan.

According to the military, the three and another soldier were attacked June 21 in Kandahar City. They are Spc. Anthony L. Mangano, 36, of Greenlawn, N.Y.; Sgt. Nelson D. Rodriguez Ramirez, 22, of Revere, Mass.; and Sgt. Andrew Seabrooks, 36, of Queens.

They were assigned to 2nd Squadron, 101st Cavalry of the New York Army National Guard, mobilized in January and reached Afghanistan in April.

Also killed was Lt. Col. James J. Walton, 41, of Rockville, Md., assigned to a Military Transition Team, 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan.
