New England Revolution Beats Pachuca 1-0

Khano Smith scored on a penalty kick in the eighth minute of injury time and the New England Revolution beat Pachuca F.C. 1-0 yesterday in a second round SuperLiga match.

New England is now 2-0 in its two SuperLiga matches at home, while defending SuperLiga champion Pachuca is 1-1.

Referee Walter Quesada awarded New England the penalty after calling Pachuca for handball in the penalty box on a shot by the Revolution's Kheli Dube.

After a scoreless first half, both teams had good scoring chances in the second.

In the 48th minute, Dube had a glancing shot off a Pachuca defensive miscue veer wide right of the goal. His drive off the right wing was knocked away in the 82nd minute.

In the 69th minute, Pachuca forward Damian Alvarez unleashed a blistering 25-yard (meter) drive which forced a diving save by New England goalie Matt Reis, who sent the ball bouncing off the right goal post.
