Sox Fans React to Manny Trade
Boston is waking up to a world without Manny Ramirez. The Red Sox slugger was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers yesterday for Pittsburgh Pirates All-Star Jason Bay.
WBUR's Meghna Chakrabarti has fan reaction.
For Sox fans, the three-team tilt-a-whirl of a trade was a bit like Manny Ramirez himself. A little loose. A little last second. Definitely a mind-bender.
At Fenway park, 9-year-old Joshua Royz dangled from the arm of the Ted Williams statue as he and his father Oscar mulled over Manny.
Kid: Because I think Manny Ramirez is more than a left-handed reliever, and uh,...
Father: Jason Bay.
Kid: Jason Bay.
Father: Better player right? But he's an individualist, and we can't have that.
Kid: huh, huh.
Neither could the Red Sox, letting go of Ramirez in the final season of his eight-year, $160 million contract.
