Obama's Birthday in Boston

Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama comes to Boston today to celebrate his birthday by raising money. Fund-raisers at the State Room this afternoon and evening are sold out.

WBUR's Fred Thys reports.

In all, 800 people are expected to attend, among them supporters of Hillary Clinton who have rallied to Obama. They include the president of the Kennedy Library, John Shattuck, and former chairman of the Democratic National Committee Steve Grossman.

The organizers of the event say they expect to raise four million dollars, which they say would make it the biggest political fund-raiser ever in Massachusetts. $700,000 of that is expected to come from Clinton supporters.

This program aired on August 4, 2008. The audio for this program is not available.
