Swift to Defend Palin

A supporter of John McCain, former Governor Jane Swift is now part of a so-called "truth squad" that will help defend McCain's pick for Vice President, Sarah Palin.

Swift and others said yesterday they will try to counter what they call smears against Palin, as well as Internet rumors.

Swift has wasted no time jumping into the political fray, demanding yesterday that Barack Obama apologize for saying that the McCain-Palin promise to bring change to Washington is like putting "lipstick on a pig."

Some see the remark as a reference to Palin's vice presidential nomination acceptance speech, in which she said the only difference between a pitbull and a hockey mom is lipstick.

Jane Swift spoke with WBUR's Bob Oakes.

This program aired on September 10, 2008. The audio for this program is not available.
