With a mere six weeks left in the presidential race, the so-called "527" advocacy groups have recently started flexing their financial muscles.

Special-interest ad campaigns for and against John McCain and Barack Obama are popping up on broadcast and cable networks. But this year, it's not quite political advertising as usual, says our Senior Media Analyst John Carroll.
