Mass. Umemployment Rate Rises To 5.5 Percent

The Massachusetts unemployment rate climbed to 5.5 percent last month, up from 5.3 percent in September. But it remains below the national rate of 6.5 percent.

The Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development estimates the state lost 7,000 jobs last month, led by the construction industry, which shed 2,300 jobs. The professional, scientific and business services sector added about 1,100 positions.
