First Night Still On Despite Snow, Winds

Boston's First Night New Year's Eve celebration will go on despite the snow, but with a few changes.

Joyce Linehan of First Night Boston says a handful of smaller venues have canceled events, and there's a chance tonight's fireworks display could be on hold.

"Fireworks come into question if there are sustained winds of 20 miles per hour or more," says Linehan. "The fire department will make that determination, but we are anticipating that everything will go off as planned."

City officials are encouraging First Night revelers to take public transportation.

The "T" will be free after 8:00 p.m.

This program aired on December 31, 2008. The audio for this program is not available.
