Some of the nation's most prominent politicians, including Mass. Sen. Edward Kennedy, traveled to Newport, R.I., Monday for the funeral of retired Sen. Claiborne Pell. He represented Rhode Island for 36 years.
Pell was remembered as an aristocrat with a common touch, an environmentalist before it was cool, and a penny-pincher who wore 50-year-old clothes but deprived his family of nothing. Sen. Pell was 90.
