Gov. Patrick: Gas Tax Hike A 'Serious Alternative'

Governor Deval Patrick is now calling an increase in the state's gas tax a "serious alternative" to raising tolls on the Massachusetts Turnpike.

A few weeks ago, the governor dismissed the gas tax increase, saying the timing was bad given the economy.

Patrick says he'd only support the idea if the increase is part of a larger transportation reform plan that will help avoid sharp toll hikes in the future.
