Flu Cases On The Rise In Mass.

After a relatively mild flu season so far, state health officials say they're seeing an uptick in the number of people who have the virus.

The increase in influenza activity isn't a surprise, since flu season usually peaks in February or early March. John Jacob of the Department of Public Health says it's not too late to get vaccinated if you haven't already.

JACOB: The most important thing that folks can do to avoid getting the flu is to get a flu shot. And beyond that it's important for folks to make sure that they're using the proper hand washing etiquette, and also to try not to cough or sneeze into your hand; instead, use the crook of your elbow.

Jacob also says people with the flu should stay home from work or school to keep from spreading it.
