From The Studios Of NPR West, This Is Dead Air

KCET's SoCal Connected produced this video profile of journalists who produce Day to Day, NPR's canceled daily news magazine. The staff continues to produce the show knowing they'll be out of a job in March. "This recession is rearing its ugly head in a lot of unlikely places," host Madeleine Brand told a national audience. "No one here at NPR thought that we, too, would be affected. Sixty-four people, including me, we're going to be laid off."

You can see the whole entry on the SoCal Connected Web site.

Last month, public broadcaster pleaded with the incoming Obama administration for a chunk of the economic stimulus pacakage, which is still zigzagging through Congress. No word yet on whether NPR will get that money.
