Lawrence Mayor: Bullet May Have Been For Me

The mayor of Lawrence says its likely that he or someone on his staff was targeted by a bullet fired into City Hall over the weekend

Mayor Michael Sullivan says the city, which is facing a $5 million budget deficit, has laid off 16 workers in the past month, and with such high emotions, city officials are on high alert. "You know, whenever something like this takes place in a public building --like a City Hall — we're just very alarmed at this point."

Police are still investigating the shooting, which they believe happened over the weekend.

Police Chief John Romero says investigators have determined the bullet was fired from an alleyway that runs along City Hall, and was not accidental. "It appears that alleyway that's in the middle there was the location where the round was fired," Romero says. "From street level up towards the building and of course hitting the window."

City and state police have increased patrols in and around City Hall.
