Obama Poster Artist In Boston Court For Vandalism

The street artist who created the famous red, white and blue "Hope" poster of President Barack Obama is due in court for two hearings in Boston.

Shepard Fairey is scheduled to appear in Brighton District Court on Tuesday in connection with a vandalism charge dating to 2000.

Fairey was arrested in September 2000 after police saw him allegedly pasting a poster on an electrical box.

He failed to appear at his arraignment for that offense and was arrested last month on a warrant stemming from that complaint and a new one.

The 38-year-old Los Angeles resident filed suit against The Associated Press asking a judge to find that his use of an AP picture in creating the Obama poster did not violate copyright law. The AP wants credit and compensation.

This program aired on March 10, 2009. The audio for this program is not available.
