Gov. Patrick To Funnel $168M To Schools

Massachusetts school districts could see millions of dollars in new funding under a plan expected from Governor Patrick today.

The Boston Globe reports the governor will announce a proposal to use $168 million in federal stimulus funds to prop up local school districts.

Patrick will have to work with the legislature to finalize the plan, but the administration says it wanted to announce the plan early so districts could figure the money into next year's budgets.

Many districts have warned of teacher layoffs, program cuts and school closures, if more state funding isn't available.
