Court Limits Police Search Of Drug Dealers

The state Supreme Court has put limits on when police can search suspected drug dealers for weapons.

In a 5-to-1 ruling Thursday, the court said police may only frisk drug suspects if they have specific information that the person is armed or if the suspect has a history of violence.

Suffolk County District Attorney Dan Conley says the ruling could compromise police officer safety. He says he's prepared to let police continue frisking suspects, even if it means he may lose a case.
